Peak Pizza? Domino's Pizza CEO Departs After Shift Towards Fried Chicken.
A chief executive of the UK's Domino's Pizza chain who proposed the UK might have hit peak pizza while broadening the chain into fried chicken has been removed after tensions with its governing body.
Leadership Transition
The former CEO is departing after a brief tenure in leadership, and will be succeeded on an interim basis by the organization's chief operating officer, Frampton, while Domino's seeks a long-term chief.
The outgoing executive, who worked for Domino's for a substantial period, had attempted to redirect Britain's leading pizza food delivery firm towards poultry-based products, remarking in a recent interview there was not “huge potential” left in the British pizza industry. He said poultry was the quickest rising menu item in the world.
Governance Tensions
Sources suggest that there was friction between the CEO and the board over his strategy and management style, although the company's official statement said he was departing “through mutual consent”.
New Product Introduction
In the autumn, Domino's unveiled its poultry offering – which the former chief described as a “major strategic shift” for the organization – and is testing it in select stores in the north-west of England and Northern Ireland.
While the business is still going to roll it out across its almost 1,400 stores in 2026 as planned, it considers chicken products as an addition to its primary pizza operations.
Leadership Statement
Bull, the Domino's chair, commented: “Directors think that there are a range of possibilities to enhance value and value creation in our primary operations. We are prioritizing selecting the suitable leader to direct the systematic rollout of that expansion plan.”
Market Challenges
Recently, the pizza delivery giant, which has 13 million customers in the British Isles, said orders fell by 1.5 percent in the third quarter. In August, it alerted that the food delivery sector had “grown more challenging” as it attributed economic uncertainty in the run-up to the government announcement and higher payroll outlays for disappointing revenue and a significant fall in interim earnings.
Competitors are also struggling. Another major chain revealed the shutting of dozens of outlets a last month, after the business behind its outlets entered insolvency.
Wellness Efforts
Adapting to consumer trends towards healthier eating, Domino's has rolled out light options, such as its thin-crust line of pizzas below 400 kcals as well as plant-based and wheat-free pizzas. A family-sized pepperoni has 2,311 calories. A big margherita has 2,171 kcal, while a individual has 909 calories.
Interim Management
The interim chief has been with the company since the recent past, and previously worked for the gambling company a well-known operator. It is thought that she prefers not to take on the chief executive role on a full-time basis.
Frampton stated: “Our team has a number of active growth and efficiency programs that we will be dedicated to implementing at pace.”
She added these comprised additional efforts on the organization's logistics network and new item creation, and its rewards program.
Domino's is also without a long-term CFO until the spring, when a new appointee starts from the Irish cider and beer maker a well-known firm. For now, Snow is acting financial officer.
