Flights Resume at Edinburgh Airport In the Wake of Major Control Tower IT Issue
Passenger services have restarted at Scotland's primary international airport following a significant air traffic control outage halted all operations.
Every arrival and departure were suspended because of an IT issue that arose around 08:30.
Some passengers were left waiting in aircraft on the tarmac as the outage continued.
Flights Resume with Residual Impact
Officials announced at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "patience and understanding".
That said, considerable delays are likely to affect schedules. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with a host of additional flights experiencing delays.
A spokesperson had initially projected that a significant number of movements could be impacted.
"Flyers are asked to contact their airlines for the most up-to-date details on their specific flights," the statement added.
Root of the Disruption
The airport attributed the operational halt to an IT issue with its air traffic control provider.
Travelers should still plan to check the status of their trip before departing to the hub as residual delays are managed.
